Summer is in full swing in the garden and a rainbow of colors are in bloom so I decided to make up a rainbow-styled bouquet.  All of the flowers are from my garden and I think I counted over 30 different kinds of foliage and flowers in it.

This post is going to be part of my ongoing bulk bucket series featuring bouquets and arrangements made from just one of my buckets from the garden.  A bucket can provide enough flowers for:

  • One beautiful lush bridal bouquet or large centerpiece
  • Two bridesmaids bouquets
  • Two to four smaller vessel arrangements.

The bright pink fluffy astilbe is one of my favorites and its shorter season makes me appreciate it even more.  Coming out the top of the bouquet,  is a new plant to me this year called Job’s tears.  I looks a lot like a corn stalk.  The green beads it produces were traditionally used to make rosary beads.  After 2 years, my eryngium (also called sea holly the white-green spiky blooms at the center bottom), has finally bloomed this year and I love it.  The big yellow spray in the middle is bouquet dill!

On the other side you can see a beautify big black eyed susan, and fun pink gladiola, and some rusty red coleus foliage.  The bright blue flowers are bachelor buttons, probably one of the truest blues in the garden all year besides hydrangeas.

In this photo, I took the bouquet back apart and laid out all the ingredients that it was comprised of.  This is an amazing example of all the things that were growing in the garden the first week of June when I made the bouquet.  One of the great things about this bouquet is that at least half, if not more, of it consists of perennial flowers, which means you buy them once to put in your garden and can enjoy them for years to come.  Some of the annual flowers, like the bachelor buttons and the orlaya, will scatter their seeds before dying, and so will self sow the next year.

Here is the bucketful I pulled from the garden to design the bouquet.  By request, I am happy to sell buckets full of flowers that either I can pick for you, or you can come to my garden and we can pick together.  The bucket price includes market flowers and foliage, with an additional small charge for premium flowers like roses, dahlias, heirloom mums, and large sunflowers.
